My wife and I were at a county rodeo and I asked her if she’d find me more attractive if I were more of a cowboy. Ironically I was sitting among a group of men in wrangler jeans, cowboy hats, and boots, wearing a shirt with the cover of the novel, “The Haunting of Hill House” a copy of the classic works of Edger Allan Poe in my lap in case I got bored, sporting shorts and shoes I bought at Costco.

I didn’t exactly fit in at the rodeo, not that I wasn’t raised in rural Utah, and spent many hours as a youth herding cattle with my grandfather, but that was a long time ago and right there, I felt out of place.

Mel looked around, she looked at me, and without hesitation she said “nope.”
