A few years ago Mel and I decided alternate months spending one-on-one time with our kids. I’ve written about this before, but essentially we have a schedule. August for example was Mels month, and so she did something with each child last month: bowling, watching a movie, visiting the dog park (our youngest loves that), playing video games… we can’t spend over $15 on an outing. September is my month.
We’ve done this for several years now, and I’ve noticed a few things. First, the kids get incredibly excited about it. And now that we are reaching the teen years, getting excited about spending time with a parent is pretty substantial, and I’m honestly grateful we started this early.
