We got a Nintendo Classic a couple years ago, and suddenly my 8yo Aspen has become obsessed with it. The thing has all the NES games, and here are a few thoughts, observations, and exaggerations on the subject.
Aspen didn’t believe her mother, or anyone, could help her get past world 4 on Mario Brothers 3. Mel walked over there, rolled up her sleeves, and busted out a number of moves she hasn’t used since 1992, and dominated the game like some sort of terminator. It was incredible. Then she just dropped the remote and walked away.
I was playing Dr. Mario with Aspen. She absolutely destroyed me a number of times, same as everyone did in the late 80s when I was 8. The only difference this time is Aspen actually gave me a hug each time I lost, and somehow that made all the difference.
