I Am Aspen

When my oldest daughter, Norah, was 3 (almost 4) we gave her a toy doctor kit. One day she was giving me a checkup and I called her doctor Norah.

“I’m not a doctor,” she said. “I’m a nurse.”

“Why can’t you be a doctor?” I asked.

“Because girls are nurses,” she said.

I’m not sure where she picked this up, but it gave me pause. Not that there is anything wron…
