In October of 2019, just before the pandemic, Mel and I went to a haunted corn maze with another couple. And I’ll be honest here, I was shocked. We’d been married for about 16 years at this point and never, ever, not a chance in heaven, had Mel ever agreed to go to a haunted anything, or to watch something scary. To put this into prospective, we were on our honeymoon over Halloween. I cried “bo!” on a dark road, and made her jump. Then I said happy Halloween, and she stopped talking to me for the rest of the night.

So yeah, I was shocked when someone invited us to go to a haunted corn maze, and she said “sounds fun.” But I suppose I should have been less shocked when we actually went to the maze, and it was dark and full of bloody skeleton people and chainsaw sounds, and Mel hid her face into my chest most of the way.
